Gearbox - How to top up/refil oil.

Hi i am going to change the gear box oil on my mgf next weekend,i am going to attempt to do it from under the car.I have made a gadget from an old thinners bottle,length of hose,cycle pump,and two old cycle valves.I have tried it with water & it works fine with no effort at all, it pumps to well over a meter high.So it should be fine to reach the filler hole,i know it will be different with the oil & i may have to change the tube to a slightly larger diameter.I am going to try to put some photos on here to show how it looks made up.This is my first time doing this.It would be great to hear what others think, & weather it will work.I will let you know next week when i have tried it out.

Chris, sound like a good gadget! if it works its sound like an easier way to top up without hassle by accessing from under the car.

Hi i have now changed the gear box oil using the cycle pump.The oil i used was MTF-94.I drained old oil there was only just over 2 LTR so it was low anyway.I wont go into all the details which have been mentioned before.I poured 3ltr of oil into the plastic container put tube into filler hole & pumped it into gear box until oil flowed from filler.It really was that easy,no effort at all, it used nearly all of the 3 ltrs but not quite.Here are a couple of photos.

Rather than fill from the top, or from underneath for that matter, just remove the nearside wheel so that you can get a length of tubing more or less straight to the filler hole. I also fitted a funnel to the hose to facilate pouring from the plastic bottle.
