I have an early MG TF which only has the original thermostat housing this has been causing me issues recently and therefore has bore the brunt of my Googling efforts.

Found this: http://web.tiscali.it/elise_s1/index.htm

and: http://www.mgfmavhh.ukf.net/ <<<< well worth a read!

Had to have one in my system so did a bit more searching, found this:

There are many advantages to having the PRRT at the front of the car and plumbing is is easy to get to and pretty simple to do. Its always good when its been done and tested beforehand!

So, to the scrapyard to look for a Range Rover or a Rover 75, both have the PRRT. Of the 6 Rover 75's there I couldn't find a PRRT on any of them, turns out I was looking in the wrong place but hey ho, I can go back and get them If I need to. In desperation I looked in the engine bay of every Rover/MG there and found these....

Nestled at the front of Rover 200/220.

Also managed to get a plastic T piece but also found a few moulded T pieces which might do a job, we'll see. Got the lot for £30 and that was including 2 coil packs that are not shown so they're not going to break the bank.

This mod has been done before but I'll be adding to this as I progress as I dont think there is a how-to here.

I want to do this mod, or a similar one with the PRT at the back on both my TFs.

I went the more expensive route ('cos I can't stand oily greasy dirty scrapyards and those that run them - sorry guys but you don't appeal to me! :nonod: ) of buying the Freelander conversion kit that comes with PRT, Tee'd (rather long) pipes, clips, etc and I will cut them down to fit.

Part number frrm a Land Rover dealer is - PCH001190

But with it at the front the engine will be slower to warm up due to the length of coolant pies also being needed to be warmed through.

The links can explain it better than I can and they back it up with temperature readings.

The gist of it is:

Yes it takes an extra couple of mins to warm up the primary circuit but this means than when the thermostat does open you dont get lots of cold water from the radiator and coolant pipes combined hitting the block.

Cold water into a hot engine block sometimes causes thermal shock which is very bad for your head gasket.

It's the best mid I've done pal. I don't think it takes much more warning either tbh. Only thing I notice is the centre console is toasty inside
