:( sorry to hear that. Where did the steam come from?

The cap on the expansion tank is a common failure point. if it doesn't keep pressure the water will boil and emit steam.

Hi mate.
I don't know as I didn't open the boot to look, but I expect it was the cap venting.
This is what I found when I got home from the most useless radiator shop in Australia. Im impressed that the cap was holding.

I told them I wanted the PRT replaced but they weren't interested in doing it.
I'll order two from Brisbane and do it myself.

Ken,
did you check the jiggle valve in the inlet manifold?

Cleaning this little bastard solved my overheating issue.

Hi mate.
Nope, jiggle valve?
There's something Im not aware of. What do I do a search for to find info on this?
Thanks in advance.

a little valve in the inlet manifold that tends to get blocked.
Have a look at this post: Inlet Manifold - Jiggle valve location

Edit: seems you have the aluminium manifold - but location is the same as with the black plastic one.

Thanks Bertl.
I've found the valve but buggered if I can work out how to clean it.
As an aside, I received the new side vents from a UK dismantler, no change, the car still ran hot after removing the scoops and replacing the vents, so its certainly not the side scoops, and just want to retract any inference that they caused my over heating. What an amazing coincidence though!
I'll look into replacing the PRT after seeing how easy Clives and Davids' "How To" showed it to be.
More to follow and thanks again.

Well, finally got to replace the PRT (after playing with the jiggle valve to no benefit) and all now works perfectly!
Bloody PRT was only 14 months and 10,000KMs old!
Just need to finish bleeding the valve over the engine and all done. Ive put the scoops back on, and going for my first run in the car in a month tomorrow.
I'm a happy man.
Oh yeah, jeez I hate those bloody spring clips on the hoses MG used.

Best wishes fellas.
