Ben,

Can't see anything in your post: a link perhaps?

It will be all right in the end. If it isn't all right yet, then it is not yet the end..

I tried clay barring, after an hour on the same panel, and no dirt whatsoever coming off I gave up :coat:

...must have been scrupulously clean before you started!

Were you using anything to lubriate it?
Do you soften it before starting?

Good point: I used Meguiars detailing spray and kneaded the clay before starting. After a couple of rubs (oo er) the clay was like a smokers hanky. Car was washed thouroughly before starting.

The pics don't really do justice to the deep shine. I tried to take some before and after pics, but the difference didn't really show up.
Process: Wash and rinse off, leather dry, leave to dry thouroughly while have a Benson and a tea.
Meguiars detailing spray to lube my bar (oo er) and about 3 hours of deep tedium clay barring the paintwork. Looked like crap when finished the clay bar process.
Meguiars Gold Standard wax applied with a soft pad. Polish off with muttoncloth. Finish buff with a microfibre cloth.

The main difference noted was that the wax just glided on and off: very little effort owing to the smooth paintwork after the clay bar.

Would I recommend it: definitely! As expected it rained just as I finished: amazing beading!
My Jag seemed to be casting jealous glances: I may do that but its a killer doing a relatively small car: the expanse of Jaguar looks a daunting prospect!

Finally: another liquid lubricant is essential: 3 cans of Carlsberg Export!! Apply internally to the idiot connected to the clay bar..... :)

...one last thing: I popped the washer jets out of the bonnet to give a clear run when polishing. Good chance to remove the built up wax around them and also underneath. I soaked them in Autoglym vinyl and rubber care: came up like new. If you try this its easier to disconnect the tubes at the tee piece rather than try and pull the pipes off the jets themselves.

It will be all right in the end. If it isn't all right yet, then it is not yet the end..

Nice work John. :broon: I'll move this part of the post into the 'how to clay' guide, once it's run it's course. Cheers.

Wouldn't it be great if they could all turn out looking like this. Clickety click.

After the clay bar experience on the TF, and 'working from home' today, I attacked the Jag with the bar and wax. a bit like cleaning a Jumbo jet with a toothbrush.... :bang:

Result: two quite attractive shiny blue ladies I think, and both Midlands built! And, as I've said before, no oil stains on the drive.... for now!!

Anyway, I'm chuffed!!

Clay bar was a revelation for me and had only just perfected it before I couldn't do it any more! Amazing what "clean" paintwork hides!

Looking very nice!
