Does anyone have any experience of refurbing alcantara seats? Mine are overdue a clean and have 'bobbled'. Any ideas how to remove bobbling and best way to clean? :-?

Apparently the best thing to use is one of those jumber debobbler. They look like a small shaver.

bought one a few months ago, only a few £££'s off ebay. Just got to get the confidence to use it.

Have horrid thoughts of it munching little holes in the material!!!

As said already, these are perfect to remove the little bobbles and knots:

Alcantara is quite a tough material, but don't do a wet clean. Use a sponge or brush to give it an even surface, if you have spots a fine sand paper can be useful.
Dirty areas can be cleaned with baking powder, just rub it in (dry) and let it work for a few minutes. Vacuum off and done.

Alcantara.
Consult Graham Norton, Freddie Mercury and George Michael for a definitive answer. :broon:

It will be all right in the end. If it isn't all right yet, then it is not yet the end..

I got one of those lint shavers from homebase for a fiver, worked a treat on the new seats in the ZR.

I did Felix's Alcantara seats with a bobble remover/shaver - worked an absoliute treat. They came out looking almost new. The drivers seat base was also very saggy and stained so I took the cover off the seat frame and put it in the washing machine in a clothes bag so it didn't get scratched. It came out lovely and clean, plus it had 'unstretched'.

To be honest I'd probably rub some leather feed in after the wash (just the leather parts though!) just in case it drys out and cracks. But now the base came out so nice I will probably do the other seat parts now.

was that a 'seat out' job or were you able to remove the seatbase in situ?

Seat out I'm afraid - as you need to unclip the little metal wire 'coils' that hold it to the foam etc. Although you do get a chance to clean up the frame when it's out!

It's easier putting it back as I used cable ties rather than the pesky metal coils.... I have refitted a cover with them before but it's a real pain in the ass!
