Fortunately, we created a solution to this perceived problem. Serious posts go in 'the pitstop' area and not so serious go in the t-bar area. So, it's the best of 'both worlds' and they are worlds apart at times too. The good thing is that we do have two worlds to choose from here and we can use either, depending on the need or mood.
Back on topic.. 'It's their trainset'.
My thoughts are that banter can be clearly addictive to some and it allows 'natural grouping' in humans to occur. That would include the other basic human requirements such as taunting and bullying, arguing, mass negativity and such like to manifest in some instances. That's all well and good if you want it that way and it can be a fun stimulus for many. But with only 'one world' it can consume everything. The 'good, sensible bits' about the cars or any other topics are at risk of being lost in all the bedlam that it can sometimes create. It makes moderation a mission and you could end up with your back to a wall if you're not careful.
I'm going to write something now that is private and can only to be read by T-Bar forum members. Please don't quote it to non members. If they want to read it, they are welcome to join up.

They switched off the reputation system because it was being abused.
Apparently it will be restarted when they switch softwear.
