I used to be an electrical engineer working on Sea King Helicopters. Compared to MGF electrics they are simple, or am I getting to old to learn new systems.......... ;)

Electrics is electrics.

Mind you, I have worked with a few "air" electricians in the Air Force and I can kind of understand. :woowoo:

They started building the Sea King back in the days of the MGA so I'm not surprised that the MGF seems a bit different!
Fortunately, other than the computerized module bits the F's electrical is pretty durable and other than the usual corroded grounds and the infamous boot hinge wiring there aren't a lot of things that give trouble. It's very much a modern car in that it is usually a matter of figuring out which part is faulty and replacing it.

That's what I stuck on, figuring it out!!!!!! Both my door windows stopped working at the same time, I have checked all the fuses ( not just the ones associated with the windows), I have replaced the yellow relay (R1) under the steering wheel. going to look at the earth points next, any idea where they are, or other suggestions?

Depends on the age of the car, some have BCUs, others have SCU's.

Its a 1995, number 1738 of the production line... Thinking of getting an OBD reader to pug into it to run on my Iphone Take it this would be an OBD and not the BD2?

I'm not sure that the bluetooth odb readers work on mems 1.9.
mine certainly wont talk to my '97 F but is very happy with my '04 diesel Yaris.You may need a t300 or t4 test book
I would start at the window motor and work back
I.E if I apply 12 volts to the motor direct does it move>...... then check for voltage on the plug adaptor with a multimeter then the relay then the switch. Nowt wrong with working the other way of course

the magical number is 522573, from this VIN on all Fs were equipped with the MEMS3 engine control unit which is fully OBD-II compliant.
Your F should have a mechanical miles counter and will not be OBD2 compliant. It will have the same shape socket in the same place but is wired differently so will require a T4 computer.

Thanks for all your help got the problem sorted. Disconnected the fuse box from harness and removed the MFU, cleaned all the terminals and re-assembled. Hey presto all working again, think it was slight corrosion on the terminals. the last part of my VIN is 001738 so looks like OBD2 not going to work...... :woo2: :woohoo:

Good work. We tend to forget that terminals sitting for decades can corrode out of sight.

By the way, is 526 what I think it is?
