My car has been tucked up all cosy in the garage under a breathable cover with moisture absorbers in for good measure for the past month while I have been getting ready to put it back on the road. What could go wrong I thought, it will be perfectly happy and dry I though, how wrong could I be. Looks like I have a seriously major cleaning job this weekend with considerable PPE. Has anyone ever seen anything like this before after such a short time? :omg:

I'm beginning to think the MGF Gods have decided I'm not going to be allowed to have an MGF again.

Oh dear I've seen them like this in the scrap yard GUTTED you might want to put a mask on lots of damp micro fibre cloths good luck

Must've been a humid place you had it stored in, once you've cleaned it, you might want to treat it with something to kill the mould spores or it could come back.

As Cobber said, take care to use a mould killer and treat every corner and fold or it will bloom again.

As the other guys say you will need to treat this once cleared,

First of all use disposable cloths, dab away rather than wipe to far, this will only spread any spores. :dry:

I found that a mild household cleaner was sufficient as long as you ventilate the car properly and I would suggest that the "breathable" cover is not that breathable :doh:

Jeez, I know that mould and stuff grows quick, but wooooo. That is some heavy duty glop for a months growth.

Well there is good news, after a day day spent stripping out and scrubbing everything with 25% vinegar solution, a nice long dry in the sun, followed by leather cleaner and finally a leather conditioner I'm happy to say everything is salvageable and the Seats and door cards have come up a treat. The steering wheel will need recovering but that's fine as I have got a spare as recovering was always the plan. the forces of niceness have triumphed over the evil life-form that invaded my poor defenseless F. :woohoo:

Now I just have to put it back together again :slapme:
