No, the 'Trophy' conversion does not affect the light output. The part painted has no part in the production of the light beam.

Phew - thanks for that David.

By twin and single headlight are you referring to the 2 lights in 1 on the MGF? Is it usual to have seperate lights like this?

PS - what use do the sidelights play? they are so ineffectual..!!

Yep the MGF are two in one(twin) Up until projector headlights it was usual to have either a single headlamp with a dual filament bulb(dip/main) This allowed for a bigger/ more efficient reflector, or a twin setup of separate main and dip like the F. The TF projector type headlamps was supposed to solve the F problem.

Sidelights - good question. I believe that the original use was to illuminate the car when parked. Not as some people think, to use when driving around when it's not dark enough for headlamps, or for in fog!

I think side lights started out as marker lights. They would show the outer edge of the vehicle. More important when you realise that the older cars often had the 2 headlights in the middle.

I honestly don't think that you should be able to drive on side lights nowadays. As soon as you start yor engine your sidelights should go to dipped beam.
