Can anyone recomment a good digital camera around the £70-£100 mark?

If you give me an idea of what you want in the camera, I'll recommend one.Yves Adele Harlow;5185 wrote: Hi guys n gals,

Size, features like zoom etc, what you are going to use it for.
In that price range you will be looking at a compact or a bridge camera.
A bridge looks more like an SLR but doesn't have the facility to change lenses.

Fuji cameras have a honeycomb style of CCD (The bit that takes photos) rather than the normal square pattern, this makes the photos appear sharper than they really are in resolution terms.
It's on special for the purple and black ones at the mo too: http://www.currys.co.uk/martprd/store/cur_page.jsp?BV_SessionID=@@@@1998650166.1260449152@@@@&BV_EngineID=ccekadejdfddiemcflgceggdhhmdfog.0&page=Product&fm=null&sm=null&tm=null&sku=575581&category_oid=

Well I'm torn between getting a fashion one i.e. pink with pink carry case etc. or a decent one... think I'll go for a decent one... I'd like to be able to take some better quality photos of GS1 so I guess I'm after one with good image quality. :dunno:

Good price... had a look on Fuji website and they do refubed ones at a really good price so I'm very tempted... I liked this one: https://secure.fujifilm.co.uk/shop/consumer/digital/digital-cameras/slim-compact/finepix-z35 ...which I think is the same one. Also this one: https://secure.fujifilm.co.uk/shop/consumer/digital/digital-cameras/slim-compact/finepix-z30 (only available in pink - oh no what ashame! :hehe: ) also saw this on play.com: http://www.play.com/Electronics/Electronics/-/256/336/-/11566671/Samsung-PL57-12-2-Megapixel-5x-Optical-Zoom-2-7-LCD-Digital-Camera-Black/Product.html?searchtype=genre ...seems a good camera for a good price but again I don't really know enough so could be wrong.

EDIT: Does anyone know which is better - having a 10MP camera with 12x optical zoom or a 12MP camera with 3x optical zoom?

I would suggest you had a look at a second hand DSLR which can be picked up for just over your budget (I boought a Canon 350 D for the girls which cost £130) and i have just seen one go on Ebay for under £100. Then if you want to you can buy additional lenses in the future to cater for all your needs.
Nikon also do some good SLR's as well.
The down side is they don't come in Pink:dunno: sorry hun and they may not fit in your handbag but saying that some of the handbags these days they probrbly would.

If you think about it like this:- The picture you take will be either 10 or 12 mpix.
So a 12 mpix is better at 0 zoom.
But To take a picture of something requiring a zoom you can zoom 10x or 3x.
The final picture you take will still be 10 or 12 mpix.
So up to 3x zoom the 12 mpix camera will be better. After that the 10x zoom is the winner.
So it depends on what you want, if that makes sense?

mg_roadster;5201 wrote: As said before is depends on what your main use of the camera will be. It's just for Landscape shots and stationary objects you will find a vast array of camera's in that range the options are too endless to list. TBH there wouldn't be much difference in cameras from 5 Megapixels up unless you intend to blow them up to A2 or larger.

Thanks hun! I get everything you're saying except what exactly is an SLR?

don't search for SLR as this is a film camera search for DSLR. the following models 300D 6.1 mega pixels 350D 8 Mega pixels and 400D 10 mega pixels. There are later models but these 3 will be in your price range. 450D and 4000D will be closer to 250-400 depending on new or used.
