has anyone painted a car before?
You will need a decent compressor as paint spraying uses a lot of air, also the laquer needs an activator which is dangerous to breath in so you will need an air fed mask so the compressor needs to power this as well, then you need to put the compressor outside so that its not sucking it the paint fumes direct to your mask. Ideally you should use the mask for all painting.
I was pleased with the finish I got but it was not perfect from the gun - I finished with some G3 compounding paste and an electric compounding mop. Mine was a solid colour so no laquer top coat, with these special finishes I think its more difficult to get a match across panels.

As long as you tell the guys you are buying the stuff what you are trying to achieve then you should be ok.. Be prepared for alot of hard work, swearing and wishing you had never started the job...

Q. Do I need to apply a clear lacquer over the candy colour?
A. None of our 2K candy colours require a clear lacquer applying over the top, but adding a clear coat over the candy will add some depth of shine and protect the candy coat when polishing the car.

If you are still thinking of Candy paint, I must admit I do like the Candy though and some of the colours are fantastic. If I was going to respray Beryl it would be in a candy colour..

He had all the right compressor and stuff, the thing that shocked me was all the man hours it takes.
The prep is a good day or 2, then once its all painted and shiney you have to wetsand the whole car, then cover it in G3 and fire up the buffer. We didnt do the buffing as his dad wouldnt let us saying we would just rip all the paint off lol so he did it for us.

But the overall finish was rather nice and was one of the most well known corsa's round here..... Well it was bright bubblegum pink

im expecting at least 3 weeks of work to do it, it'll take at least 3 days to drop the subframes and take out the interior, i didn't realize a "buffer" was needed...
i'm thinking a trip to waterstones is needed to see if i can find a book for a little background reading
cool info teri thanks, lacquer sounds like it might be a on the spot decision, i can imagine it looking good for some extra shine though
i still can't decide on the colour... ironically i dont think the colour i choose will matter too much, it's mainly i want something A: very different to the standard MG colours and B: something not too hard to work with (for this reason im sort of discounting flip paint)
