Handbreak problem and fuel cap problem! was created by Adam-Mgtf
Posted 14 years 11 months ago #5305the guy is having trouble tightening up a loose hand-break as he can't seem to get a spanner into where the tightening nut is under the center cubby, am i right in recommending a small ratchet? if i remember rightly thats how i did it?
he's saying that the handbreak light keeps popping on but im assuming this is because the leaver is slack? im pretty sure mine did this before i tightened it?
anyway im sure i managed that problem myself however he has another that im stumped on
"also weve got a bad problem with petrol comming out of the filler cap. we filled it up one day and it poured out stripping the paint off the side of the car any ideas?"
im guessing the seal is broken on their fuel cap and simply replacing the paetrol cap with one that doesnt have a broken seal on it would fix this problem?

Handbrake sounds about the right solution - although they do want to investigate WHY it needs so much tightening - maybe seized levers?
The petrol cap must have a very bad seal to let that much petrol out that it strips paint.... i guess it's possible though! I'd suggest to them not to fill to the brim till sorted.

good tip on checking for seized leavers.... im guessing a replacment cap is needed? any way to get one that doesnt involve having a differant key to the one the car allready has?

Fairly sure you can get the cap apart with a bit on manoeuvring - then swap the barrels.
