I noted that some accounts of the accident differ from varying internet sources: eg the year it happened and some claim it was a friends bike that he was riding rather than the Rex.
So I'm staying out of this one!

It will be all right in the end. If it isn't all right yet, then it is not yet the end..

Dear god, what an ugly car

I was actually not upset to find out the fate of this car, which was that it was destroyed in a fire.

This is the MGA with chassis number YM1 1701.
D.N. Stephenson graduated from London’s Central School of Arts and Crafts Industrial Design. He demonstrated his abilities by designing a new body for the MGA Twin Cam. It was manufactured by Panelcraft Ltd.

I can't confirm the date of the accident but he was definitely in the hospital on the date in question. I've seen the census records. Interestingly I can't find my grandmother on the 1911 Census although she would have been 10 years old!

alanrt54, names are often transcribed incorrectly. Try searching for others in the family. It may have been she was staying with relatives on the night of the census and has been recorded with the wrong surname.

Just for completeness here is the 1911 census entry for the Kimber family showing the home address.

and the extract for Cecil Kimber recovering in the Manchester Royal Infirmary

Yes John I too have seen several versions of the accident and the circumstances surrounding it.

Thank you for the advice.

The problem with my grandmother was that she was never consistent with the spelling of her name Catherine or Katharine or Katherine. As everyone called her Kate it was never an issue to her. Her death certificate spells it Katharine but I suspect she was registered as Catherine as I have found a birth record in the right area on the right date. I can't get any corroboration as my late father was the last survivor of his generation of my family.

I used the census records and MG by McComb (to establish the relationships) to answer the question.

RB :woohoo: you were quick :broon:

Yes the raised bar should be towards the front of the car, the reason being it is there to stop luggage flying forward in the event of a crash and hitting the occupants.

:welcome: to the MG T-Bar Quiz hall of Fame.

Tradition has it that you now set the next question.

Before posting one just use the search box in the top right of the screen to see if your answer has come up before in the quiz.

Look forward to your new question

Back when the MGF was in its development phase and attracting considerable interest, what regular production cars were modified to run K-Series engines to allow Rover to stealthily test the K in a mid-engined location?

Hint - The answer isn't the Frankenstein Metro pizza van!
