I would have said the metro Courier Van but thanks to RB and the MG Quiz, you live and learn.

I like the twin exhaust pipes on the Metro Van F Mule

:omg: MG Rover were sneaky, ...

.... they did the opposite to something people have later thought of doing.

I have seen people ask on forums if a Toyota MR2 engine could be fitted in a F / TF

MG Rover when testing the K-Series mid engine layout used MR2's

Thank you for a very interesting first question RB, look forward to your input in the MG T-Bar Quiz.

Assuming the Toyota MR2 was the answer RB was after, here is the new question

For the sake of this question you need to assume you are driving an original 1996 MGF 1.8 Mpi from Land's End to John o'Groats.

You set off with a full fuel tank, use this all up, refill and continue on your journey.

Taking the official fuel consumption combined figure for the car, you need to answer the following questions;

a) Can you reach John o'Groats?

b) How far short of or how much further than John o'Groats can you drive ? Answer in miles please to the nearest 10th of a mile.

Good Luck

As someone who was recently there...
The sign says 874 to John o' Groats.
The combined economy is 38.3.
Therefore, no, you would run out after 421.3 miles.
There would be a further 452.7 miles to go which would mean a further tank plus another 3.7L of fuel.

(Answer 1)
Assuming the figures given by Martin are correct.

You would run out at 421.3 miles. Refill with a gallon (from the can you as you had run out of petrol) and make it 38.3 further miles. Making the total 459.6 miles.

So no you would not make it to John O'Groats

You would be 414.4 miles short.

(Answer 2)
Again assuming the figures given by Martin are correct.

You would run out at 421.3 miles. By sheer luck you coast into a petrol station as the engine splutters to a halt and can therefore brim the tank.

You would travel a further 421.3 miles. Making the total 842.6 miles

So again, you would not make it to John O'Groats and would be 33.4 miles short.

I missed the bit about refilling the tank, oops, but my figures pretty much answered the question with the exception of stating you would run short with after two full tanks at 33.4 miles.

I can tell you that there is a Tesco station on the north side of Wick and if you had brimmed the tank both times then you would probably make it to Wick which is less than 33 miles from John o' Groats but given that the combined cycle doesn't reflect cruising for at least 500 miles at legal speeds on motorways and cruising at an average of 40mph on single carriageways, then I would suggest the two tanks might just about be sufficient if the typical quoted 41mpg is more correct, leaving just 3L in the tank on arrival. :-)

Well Done cjmillsnun :woohoo:

Congratulations on your first win in the MG T-Bar Quiz :welcome: to the MG Hall of Fame and a slice of the T-Bar pie, which I will update tonight, if I get a chance.

Tradition has it you set the next question. It can be anything with a MG connection.

Just do a quick search on your answer using the search facility in the top right to make sure the question hasn't been asked before.

Hard luck MartinW, cjmillsnun beat you to the correct answer by 2 hours and 18 mins

The rarest MGR approved alloy wheels available for the MGF and TF are known as the "Swedish" wheels, so called because they were destined to be fitted to Swedish market TF limited editions in 2005, however they were never fitted and languished in a warehouse until they were discovered, and were made available exclusively through the MGF register.

a) How many of these wheels were there?
b) What year were they discovered?
