Tuesday June 12^th 2001 marked an historic and festive occasion for MG Sport & Racing Limited as the MG LOLA EX257 sports car and drivers passed scrutineering for racing in the 24-hour endurance race at Le Mans, June 16/17, 2001.

1965 marked the last time an MG competed in the 24-hour Le Mans race.

It's the Dyson Racing biobutanol powered Lola/Mazda, that appeared at the 2009 Petit Le Mans endurance race held at Road Atlanta in Braselton, Georgia.

The connection is that Dyson Racing also ran the MG/Lola car

I thought the Lola MG's started after qualling well but retired knackered after about 30 ish laps? Doesn't this count?

Sorry John and cjmillsnun there is a very direct MG link to the Mazda. To win you need to name the MG link and the location of it's one and only appearance.

The answer to the previous question set by John was MG LOLA EX257 - there are similarities. The location had a 1000km that leap year.

Bugger, my email updates haven't been working lately, missed a couple. Never mind.

The car was known as EX265C, with an updated XP21 MG engine and built for the 2008 LMS series. It officially only raced once, at Silverstone in 2008.

More from RML's website:
" It reappeared for the 2009 season fitted with the Mazda AER MZR-R 2.0 litre turbocharged engine. Still beautiful, and bearing the familiar red, white and blue livery, the Mazda-powered car contested the full Le Mans Series and also the 24 Hours in 2009, but finished only one race. The engine took an instant dislike to the new regulation fuel of that year, and despite the best efforts of the AER and RML technicians, the unit failed repeatedly.

In a last-ditch effort to get a result, the team replaced the MZR-R for the final round of the year at Silverstone, and duly earned themselves a long-overdue second-place finish. Now, eighteen months or so later, it’s fair to admit that the engine that went back in on that occasion was the MG XP-21. The record books may never state as much, but the EX265C did race twice, and finished on the podium as a swansong."

Well done MG mad, yes the car I was looking for was the MG Lola EX265C

Introduced as the MG Lola EX265C in 2008, the car ran as a Lola Mazda through 2009. This along with three other RML AD Group sports prototypes were offered for sale last year.



With the 2008 championship already in the bag of one of the Porsche teams, RML decided to make a brave and unexpected move for the final race of the season. Immediately after the penultimate race they transferred their new for 2008 EX265 to Lola and asked them to transfer all the mechanicals on a new, Coupe tub.

Little over a week before the Silverstone 1000 km the EX265C, complete with around 70% of the open car's parts, first turned a wheel at a test on the Snetterton track. During the Silverstone race weekend the limited tracktime of the brand new car meant that the team had a lot of ground to catch up. All the hard work paid off as the MG Lola EX265C crossed the line fourth in class after the 1000 km 'test.'

At the end of the season the RML team announced the end of the partnership with MG. Although the team continued to run the Lola coupe, it was no longer referred to as the MG Lola EX265C, making Silverstone its only appearance.
