Where was the first MG factory that had a production line? (Road name, and town/city required)

When did MG move into this factory?

Sorry to take us back for a moment but the answer to the last question needs a bit of clarification.

~Puddles~ wrote: Being an accountant  I shall ask this probably way to easy for you all but here goes....

What was the original company who made MGs called
What was its company number
When was it incorporated and when was it dissolved

and part two

When was its founder born, and what was the first motorised transportation he purchased?

The company was "The M.G. Car Company Limited"
Company number 00249645
Incorporated 21 July 1930
Dissolved 15 June 2010

The founder Cecil Kimber was born on 12 April 1888 and his first motorised transport was a Rex motor cycle.

"What was the original company who made MGs called"

MGs were originally made and sold whilst Cecil Kimber was employed as a Manager at The Morris Garages Ltd. of Oxford. On 1st May 1924, the Octagon was registered as an MG trademark and on 1st September 1924 MG's 14/28 Super Sports model went on sale. In 1928 MG was established as a separate marque specialising in sports car production.

Cecil Kimber was the driving force behind MG and the MD at The M.G. Car Company Limited, founded in 1930, however the major shareholder and owner was William Morris. So is it strictly true to say Kimber was the founder of the company or the driving force behind the MG idea? In 1935, The M.G. Car Company Limited was sold by Morris to Morris Motors Limited and as such became dormant, the MG factory at Abingdon survived as an operational unit. Cecil Kimber also no longer had sole control and had to take orders from head office.
MG had to quit all factory racing to instead earn money. Even the development department was moved to Morris which was considered a blow. The MG's that followed contained more details compatible with other parts within the Morris group like engines, gear boxes, shafts and brakes. The specialised M.G. engines with overhead camshaft was to give way for ordinary push rod engines and the mechanical brakes was replaced by hydraulic ones, in which Cecil didn't believe. But in spite of all outcries from MG enthusiasts the new cars sold well, even better than the old ones, and the MG factory profit increased.

Referring back to the dreadful 1955 Le Mans 24 hour race. Following the death of Pierre Levegh and the spectators the Swiss government banned motor racing. I believe this ban is still in force today. the most important motor sports events in Switzerland are hill climbs.

@PQD44

That subject is debatable.

The cars produced by Morris Garages were dual badged as both Morris and MG (are they modified Morris cars or MG cars?) It could be argued either way as the foundation of the cars was Morris, with a carbodies body which was placed on it by Morris Garages. Some people therefore argue they were effectively a "dealer special"

Also the process to start the formation of the MG Car Company was begun in 1928, although the incorporation didn't come through until 1930.

Very true, but if Old Number One is, as generally accepted, considered the first MG Sports Car .....

Still onward and upward.

Here is a reminder of the current question set by cjmillsnun

Where was the first MG factory that had a production line? (Road name, and town/city required)

When did MG move into this factory?

MG moved to their first purpose built factory in September 1927. This factory was located at Edmund Rd, Cowley.

Correct

Not MG related but of interest were the IMSA GTP (P standing for Prototype) class forwhich Group 44 built a number of cars.
This led to the Jaguar works Le Mans prototypes of the 80s and early 90s. the story of the Group 44 Jaguar Prototypes can be found here

Thanks Alan.

OK for all you wordsmiths out there time for you unscramble a couple of anagrams.

Here are anagrams of the names of the lead Actor and Actress from a famous film from the 1970's.

Bedford Terror

Sir Satan Drabber

Once you have unscrambled their names, find the film, find a photo of the MG link and then post it here to claim the win.

Good luck
