The car pictured is the 2003 Mercury Messenger.

Mercury was a marque of the Ford Motor Company launched in 1938 by Edsel Ford, to market entry-level luxury cars slotted between Ford and Lincoln-branded luxury vehicles.

The Mercury Messenger was to have been fitted with a Ford 4.6l V8 engine. Lots of possible links then with many of the V8 MG's, however, this was a bit of a trap as I don't believe it was the MG link cjmillsnun was looking for.

The MG link, I believe, to this car began life in Coventry in 1956 :yesnod:

In 1999 Ford asked a certain Mr Gerry McGovern to lead their Lincoln-Mercury design. McGovern set up a design studio in California and became only the second design professional to be appointed to the Lincoln Mercury Board. Whilst there he employed Marek Reichman, who later went on to become the Aston Martin Design Director.

The MG link to the Mercury Messenger ... the very talented, Gerry McGovern, lead designer of the MGF

Just in case this is the answer cjmillsnun was looking for here is a quick question to keep things moving.

On 13 April 2011, almost six years to the day after MG-Rover collapsed, the first production MG6 rolled off the line in CAB1.

What you need to do is to state;

1) the VIN number of that first production MG6?

2) the name of the location to which 28 MG6's went to in convoy the following day?

If MartinW doesn't answer this, I'm sure he can confirm a win if I'm not around.

Here we are, 3 weeks since our last update and another 32 questions taking the grand total in the combined quizzes to an amazing 480.

Firstly would you please welcome the newest member to the T-Bar MG Hall of Fame.... .... ~Puddles~ :woohoo:

Notching up an incredible 8 wins over the period was MG Quiz 'new kid' cjmillsnun

The standard and variety of questions has once again provided so many interesting challenges and opportunities to explore the rich MG world.

After 148 questions in the current quiz and without further ado here's how the pies divide

... the chasing pack ...

...hurtling down the main straight...

Which leaves the overall rankings looking like this..

Taking another look at the current question I think, to make it easier for newer quiz members you need only answer part 2 :broon:
If your name appears in the top five in the leader board you will need to answer both parts to claim a win.

Here is a reminder of the current question;

On 13 April 2011, almost six years to the day after MG-Rover collapsed, the first production MG6 rolled off the line in CAB1.

What you need to do is to state;

1) the VIN number of that first production MG6?

2) the name of the location to which 28 MG6's went to in convoy the following day?

groovylee, that is a good answer and one which appears quite a few times, however the official MG UK site and the magazine source I have state they went somewhere else.

The information I have is slightly conflicting, have another try and then we'll see it the locals can help after I post a photo of the event.

:welcome: to the MG T-Bar Hall of Fame, your name now joins the list of past winners, plus you get a slice of pie and the opportunity to set the next question. A question that can be on anything, as long as there is a MG link in there somewhere.

Well done groovylee, the answer you gave is the information given on the MG Motor UK Limited website, click here to view MG Motor UK News page .

The convoy of 28 dealers cars made their way to Centenary Square, Birmingham, where the Leader of Birmingham City Council, Mike Whitby met them to celebrate the rebirth of MG. He said "This is a great day for the city and Birmingham's pre-eminent brand and its significance cannot be underestimated. .... This is a new chapter for a very powerful brand."

Just to complete the answer, the first production MG6 had the VIN;

If you came across an MG Midget fitted with an engine that had the number starting 8G, or an MGB with an engine number starting 84G, then what did this denote?

MartinW wrote: If you came across an MG Midget fitted with an engine that had the number starting 8G, or an MGB with an engine number starting 84G, then what did this denote?

the 8G midget iirc would have been an 803 CC engine, with the 8 denoting the 803CC, and the G denoting MG - 1956-1970

the 84G MGB i'm struggling with. if it was 48G, i would have said it's a post 1956 B series gold seal reconditioned engine, but i can't find a reference to an 84G :-?

aha! i think it IS a B series recon engine. gold seal would have been complete replacement unit, silver seal would have been short engine. it would have been either 1200cc, 1489cc, 1588cc, 1622cc, or 1798cc.

close?
