MG T-Bar Quiz

In fact the Metro tyres were Michelins as well :) Certainly they were the only ones available when I still had metrics on mine, although Dunlop subsequently released some in the Metro size (315 mm) when Michelin discontinued them. Dunlop have also since discontinued theirs. Interestingly the Metro Turbo only ever had 13" wheels. Metro rims also had the dual sealing rim, which my tyre shop hated as they were a bugger to fit.

Righto, who is this then?

96 MGF 1.8i: Project Rally Car
98 MGF Abingdon" 285H cams, modded head etc

70 MG Midget: 1.9L VVC + supercharger + RWD = YEEHAA!
72 MGBGT: Project Speed 6 MGB
05 MG ZT-T 260: wife's sensible car
01 MG ZS 180: LHD, for driving around Germany in

Well now, squinting in to the sun is the author of the book I put up in the book review thread two weeks ago, Click here to see thread .

The man in question is Don Hayter, a former Chief Engineer with MG. Here he is being interviewed to promote his book, MGB Story - The birth of the MGB in MG's Abingdon Design & Development Office

Arthur Balls and an MG Shop

To claim a win you need to state three things

1) Name of the MG link.
2) Answer 1) left the family and changed name, to a more familiar name in which year?
3) What did Arthur Balls do?

Happy hunting

Time for an additional clue

This MG link, in the early days, involved a 100 mile round trip, half of it wearing goggles :drive:

1. Salmons and Sons (Tickford Motor Bodies). They made bodies for various MG Cars and in fact had a specialised workshop that only made MG Bodies (the MG Shop)

2. Ian Boswell purchased Tickford in 1942

3. Arthur Balls (known as Tommy) invented an easy to use roof mechanism that worked via cranking a handle and a series of cogs. Thus making a chauffeur's live easier in folding the roof above the passengers for them to either enjoy the sunshine or avoid a shower.

That was a difficult one. It was the Capri that gave it away and finally made me think Tickford...

OK lets get this quiz moving again...

An easy one for you..

What links The Who with MG?

the only (very Tenuous) link i can easily find is this:

In June of that year, Booker T and the MGs, along with Otis Redding, appeared at the Monterey Pop Festival, alongside performers like Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, The Who, and Jefferson Airplane.

but that's really tenuous :) although just to add, that it was never proved or disproved that the band was named after Morris Garages, rather than 'Memphis Group' :broon:
