Body Bracing Kit

A few years ago I purchased ex the UK a bracing kit for the MG-F. Cant remember where from though. For reasons aplenty I've never gotten around to fitting it. It consist of:-

An under dash brace bar (which needed the dash removed which is probably why the kit is still in the workshop.
A rear engine bay brace.
An under body cross brace, more or less a giant X.

I believe this kit was fitted to the last Fs built after the Chinese took over. Does anyone have any experience with a car thus fitted? Is there any noticeable improvement? The engine bay and underbody bracing is easy enough to fit but the under dash is by definition difficult. I am toying with fitting the other two braces and leaving the under dash until I've reason to pull the console out for whatever reason may arrive.....

I noticed some wallow when I inadvertently left it disconnected (I thought that I might have broken an engine mount at the time because of it). Finding the schoolboy error I reconnected it and it showed the difference immediately. So, yes, it does make a big difference. I find the driving stability in my TF is solid.. so far.

Take them off get some made [in stainless] I will have a go. being the heaviest MGF'er.

So you'd say that it makes a difference?
Do you have the under dash one fitted as well. Expect this would help eliminate scuttle shake.....

yes, the cross, can't do any harm and should stiffen corner to corner significantly, Ken

The kit was designed to improve the torsional stiffness of the F.. a problem that was cured on the TF

The one behind the dash requires a welder.. to weld some tabs to the cross member to allow bolting in..

I personally have welded my front cross brace to the front subframe.. If you fit the cross member you should also fit solid subframe mounts too..

The boot ones can be fitted with drill and nuts/bolts.

Ive also made a pair of boot struts and one that goes under the bonnet to stiffen the shell further..

Torsional stiffness testing applied to a car before and after fitting the kit has proved it does make a difference..

VHS (vehicle handling solutions) still sell the kit, and they do come up on E bay now n then too..

Jan the one Andy had is one I made for under the bonnet.. That bolts between the shock towers..

Next up Andy is getting boot struts, once I've made them

Its going to look amazing once he has chromed it :broon:
