High Jack / Lift - Engine removal tips was created by bensewell

So attempting project "engine drop" very soon and noticed my 2 jacks are just the standard lift size. From CCJs guide he had some uber jack that seems expensive.

Some questions...

When the engine is off the frame could two people lift the frame over the engine?

My plan involves skullduggery and bribery from whoever is around and I was thinking of a big piece of wood / scaffold under the car once all engine bits disconnected then the royale "lift" and then someone pulls the tow rope with the engine on it?

Do you think its a good plan.

It will cost me a few rounds of beer and mockery by all the people on the street. :hugs:

I have a range of wood / 2 * trolley jacks and 4 * axle stands and two car ramps.

Do you think I can do it!

Jim says yes

I saw a guy do that on TV once Ben, he went all green and his clothes didn't fit afterwards so go careful.

Seriously car and engines are heavy, just be safe whatever you do, remember if it looks or feels dodgy it almost certainly is.

When the engine is off the frame could two people lift the frame over the engine? Only if your turn it upside down lol

I used one of these...

http://www.cjautosheywood.co.uk/3in1.shtml

Got it at a reasonable price second hand on ebay (used only once as far as I can see). Locally too.

One of the benefits of living in Devon is nobody else bids for what you're chasing on ebay, but likewise nobody bids for what you're selling on ebay either! It was pricey though but my wife insisted I bought it so as to not cut her off from my pension before she'd finished spending it all!

Made the job ever so easy but I have to say it took me far longer than everyone says it takes. Rusty bolts are a real pain.

I know 'superdaz' has one too.

Ben, I constructed this frame from rough sawn (rough sized) 4x2 timber, not so much can be seen but I guess you get the idea, for when I had to remove the Trike body, to get at the battery/gearbox/engine,

I used a block and tackle with straps around the fibreglass body structure

, padded of course,

I haven’t lost my marbles they are in a bag somewhere

Surely a f frame with no connected engine will be light I bet I can lift it myselft then just get some local hero to pull the rope with the subframe + engine attached? I live near a local roider gym so will set a lift a car challenge. I'm sure hulk would come and sort me out

Remember working on one of the daughters mini, lifted the body up with an engine hoist and pulled the engine and subframe out.

All went to plan but be careful of the subframe, moving it the wheels twisted it and I just managed to get out of its way. Fair bit of weight involved and it will bite.

Two sub frames off in a day challenge then.... I think surely the car can be lifted with four blokes with their guns out
