I wish, I've just spent several hours drilling out two broken subframe bolts, 1 bolt came out fine, 1 drilled out easily, 2 were nightmare on elm street and then some.
(this was the front mounts on the rear frame, all other bolts on the other six mounts came out with no problem}

At least the parts for our MG's are cheap and easy to replace.

Good job really, as they require replacing regularly... :yesnod:

Erm...... Are Mercs exempt from cheap s/h functional parts or summat? ffs.... I know SLK owners (hairdressers, environmentalists, male bodybuilders etc) are more used to scissors, gel and butch gyms than spanners but, looky here.... Took 30 seconds to find.

Posted 6 years 6 months ago #185240Full suspension rebuild, new shocks and springs front and rear (bilstons) £350
Front disks (335mm, vented and drilled) £30 each (Brembo)
Goodyear Eagle F1 tires £105 each
However there is a lot to go wrong!
Also big risk when buying V6 engines due to manufacturing defect, so buy carefully!

Posted 6 years 6 months ago #185290Changing the brake discs,
Fitting new pads,
Changing brake fluid,
Bleed. Brakes,
Rear nipple off (Hesketh's not mine....)
Strip rear calipers,
Fit new outer seals,
Re-bleed brakes,
Paint touch up on calipers (yes brake fluid really takes the paint off)
Swapping out alternator,
Fitting new connector on alternator cable,
New IACV,
New MAP sensor,
Repair to loom at ECU connector,
Track for end,
Steering rack gaiters,
Carpets out,
Seats out,
New battery,
Remove moss growing inside of footwell and other semi-sentient life from inside roof.
Adjusted passenger window,
Discovered sidewall damage to front nearside tyre,
Discovered that clutch is almost at the rivets,
Cried a while....
Used:
2 packs of plasters,
Super Glue (skin back together on knuckle mine),
Gallons of penetrating oil,
All my patience and some,
Lots of bad language,
A lot of tea,
Contemplated:
Drink,
Smoking,
Bringing an end to my suffering,
The true Zen state of mind needed for MG ownership...
Still to do:
Oil change,
Tyre change,
Clutch,
Timing belt,
Vvc belt,
Wiper blades.
Go for MOT
There are photos, but I will need a lengthy session with counselor before I am able to look at them again! Maybe on next post....
I should have prefixed this post with the assertion that prior to all the above, my MOT expectations were:
Wiper blades, and top up screen wash... A five minute job... Hmmmm

Posted 6 years 6 months ago #185295So before I moved anything in, I gotta 3 pack of bug bombs (usually enough to kill all the insects in a large house) I pulled the pins on all 3 and shut the garage door.
Whilst waiting for the toxic armageddon to do its thing, I was amazed at how many refugee spiders came scurrying out from the gaps above and below the door!
Obviously, they knew their way out, of course, they all got a whack on the head for their trouble....thereby becoming flat spiders. There were 100s of the bastards running out, and after it came time to open the doors and the toxic cloud had dispersed, I could not believe how many dead spiders (big ugly buggers) were there, quite a few very sick ones too. They had all come outta their hiding places trying to escape.
So after I had given the coup de gras to the survivors, I the swept the bodies out with a large broom.

Posted 6 years 6 months ago #185297Today's plan is a walk over to ecp to pick up some oil and some OAT (it wasn't on my list but may as well) and generally abuse the credit cards on other shiny stuff that brings out my inner magpie instincts, then lying in the relative shade of Hesketh who is currently on high lift axle stands with a cup of really strong tea, and a fresh pack of plasters....
By the way, if you are planning any mg DIY this weekend, ecp https://www.eurocarparts.com have up to 50% off with promo code MAY60 until midnight Monday. .. 35% on oil, hence my walking 2 miles rather than a few hundred yards....
More later...
