Only one Lambda sensor on an F I believe though 2 on a TF. It's 22mm. There is a special slotted socket available for the task

There are several tools for this task

Or you could use a flare nut spanner

Or even a crows foot spanner of the flare nut type

You’ll probably find it hard the break free just turning it by hand, but a short sharp love tap on the spanner with a hammer should get it turning pretty easy. You’ll find the 1st type pictured and the flare nut spanner the easiest ones to use in conjunction with a hammer.

On the subject of hammers, I prefer to use a 4lb hammer with a short handle for this kind of work.

You let the weight of the hammer do the work, as such you can be accurate and precise with your hits, much better than taking wild, inaccurate swings with a bloody pissy little flower arranger’s hammer.

Only pre cat on a Mk1 F, two - pre, and post cat on a Mk2 F and TF, so yours will only have one on the down pipe after the manifold.

Morning if I have to replace the Lambda sensor,is it easier to jack the rear of the car high onto axle stands,or jack the one side of the car ,onto axle stands .I realise whichever way isnt going to be a simple job . Len

Ramps on the rear is the safest option

The size is 22mm but you won't get a socket on without cutting the wire, also be aware they can be very tight due to the operating conditions. It's best to have a crows foot spanner or a special socket as space is tight, I have known people who have dropped the downpipe off the car to get better access.
Good luck hopefully it's not corroded in place.
