Spurious alarm trigger.
I did try searching for alarm, spurious etc but couldn’t find anything.
My newly acquired (3weeks) TFs alarm has just sounded for no apparent reason. Is there a sensor in the cabin? I was out in it yesterday with the lid down and wondered if some creature has got confined when I put the hood back up?
Is there a backup battery solely for the alarm that coil possibly failing?
One of the first things I did was check the battery voltages - 12.7V engine off, and 13.9V with the engine running. So maybe the battery is on the decline.
Any other thoughts would be appreciated.
Regards,
Michael.

Some TFs have a volumetric alarm sensor that is located inside the topmost part of the vertical section of the console/ cubby unit at the back of the car, behind the seats/ by the T bar. Its an out of the way location but if an insect were to get in there it could trigger.
If you are parking it at home you could always lock it with the key instead as i think it will still imobilise the car but wont enable the volumetric part of the alarm.

Thanks for your reply Chris.
By the time I’d got my keys it’d stopped and hasn’t done it again. I’ll check it tomorrow hopefully if the rain goes away with the hood down. Lock it with the fob and wave my hands around inside. I’ll recheck the battery voltages and maybe give it a CTEK session.
Cheers,
Michael.

The alarm on my car would randomly go off.
Also I was getting a lot of battery drain/flat battery.
I discovered that the sounder was full of water causing faults and continuously charging its internal battery, hence the battery drain.
Replaced the sounder and no more issues.

Hi Bill,
Where is the sounder located?
I did some checks yesterday. Put the hood down, locked the car with the fob and waved my hand around inside: triggered the alarm. So it would appear I’ve got a sensor in there. However after cancelling the alarm and re-locking , I couldn’t trigger it again. Is there a timer that delays are-trigger? Aside from this it hasn’t happened again in the two days since so it can’t be a major issue.

Michael.

The back-up sounder is located under the bonnet, under a small steel cover, under the big plastic cover, and on the drivers side.
It is not that easy to see, but the way the covers have been designed, all the water from the road has free and easy access to swamp this unprotected unit.
Mine was bursting apart around its internal battery where it had corroded.
I'll try and get a picture of where its located.
