Back to my original query ——.

The car has been put back together - everting left as was - thin yellow pipe disconnected.
ALL WELL - RUNS FINE. THANKYOU.

Except the clutch has now failed.

I paid £250 for one with new rear wings, floor pans and sills, it was over Xmas and no one else bid! However once I started rubbing it down for a respray I found loads of body filler on new wings, whoever did the welding made a real mess of it to the extent that the raised waistline waves in and out along it's length. Having had a quote of nearly £4000 I decided that originality was going out the window, steel flared arches hide most of the sin and more filler will finish it off. My TF cost £600 but have probably spent another £2000 since then

Which would you have preferred £600 to spend £2000 to get to a point where your fingerprint are on every part & you know it inside out.
Or a £2000 car with £600 additional work & much less knowledge. You’re at the same point fiscally but which route has been the more beneficial for you & which of those two hypothetical cars would go to the window & look at just for the pleasure of it?

Definitely buy at £600 and spend £2000 and here is why, for my £2000 I have bought and had galvanised two subframes (£350) all new subframe mountings, every suspension bush, joint, wheel bearing has been replaced, new brakes all round including hoses. On the other hand the £2500 car will need those bits doing drip by drip and the total cost will creep upwards to perhaps a £4000 car.

And that is what I expected, it is your car with your DNA adjacent to every broken bolt site, sweat in every tight corner & unspeakable oaths recorded in ever part of the fabric of your car. When it has a problem you’ll know where to look & which bit to poke. The other option is someone else’s car, yours until you get fed up with it & move on.

You do have the advantage of Afferbeck Lauder’s fine volumes of notable Phrases & Sayings in the Australasian Idiom.
A language so precise as to have over 50 words to describe dust balls found under the bed, it must have by its very nature the capacity to outshine any language with its cutting edge accuracy of direct & indirect profanity.

What engine are you using in the modified MGB and are you going to use Megasquirt ?

My MGBGT has been sitting forelorn for a while though at least now under cover. It has its original 1.8 which the PO had rebuilt and runs well but I also have a Rover V8 engine in bits that i swapped for something as I had a hankering to fit it in the B.
Each time i go into my garage I look at both the B that badly needs paint and the dismantled V8 lump which badly needs reassembling, I unsuccessfully try to shrug off the guilt and then go and do something useful but more easily achievable on one of the TFs to make myself feel better..

I looked at Megasquirts when i was into kit cars. I ended up sticking with a carb on that and just a mappable Megajolt to run the ignition. Often wished i had delved into the world of the Megasquirt though as it would have been good experience.

I just bought a 9th edition Hughes book for less than £ 4. Incredible they arent changing hands for more serious money for the wealth of information they contain.

That wealth of information is there for the taking, the fundamentals are no different now than when it was penned. The advances in electronics has bolstered those chapters but even if you’re not advanced enough to take advantage of the higher tech stuff the more basic pages are hugely informative.
You might have just inspired me to update my copy & if they can be had for next to nothing, what cost education.
