The old favourite, the srs light!

Usually the connectors to the seat belt pretensioners.
I changed the connectors to something more reliable which solved the issue for some time.
Considering the tensioners and airbags are well past their "use by" date, I wouldn't be surprised if they were non functionng anyway.

For me, ultimately the light came back and refused to go away. I would certainly NOT recommend dismantling the instrument cluster, removing the front cover and applying a small square of black tape.

Hello Len, it’s good to see you back. This is what these daft little cars do to you, you don’t need to have one long, then suddenly to be without it gives the motoring equivalent of the DT’s.
Mine comes off the road at the end of this month for remedial work & I’ll miss driving it terribly.
As usual David is correct & nor would I recommend removing the SRS lamp. Other Rover cars use a much improved under seat connector & the fitting of these is one off my season job, they came off a 200/25 I think.
The SRS system is a stand alone network which is far from complex, until you look in the control box, this is at the bottom of the radio/heater knob stack. Yellow looms interconnect the various parts, with the only “complication” being the passenger airbag.
As David says the bags & pretensioners will be time expired, but the MOT man isn’t bothered about your safety in this respect all he wants to see is the SRS light go out & not to be out in the first place.
If I’m wrong in this please correct.
I will now attempt to add a picture of the improved connector!

The great thing about the SRS circuit on our cars is that the light will go off as soon as the fault is resolved. There's no need to have to reset it through odb2. First port of call is always the underseat connectors to the pre tensioners. They are easily accidentally seperated and those on the Mk2 (2003 onwards) TFs were more fragile than those on the earlier cars. I just did one of mine and found that removing the front pair of seat bolts then pulling the seat forward on its runners allowed enough access to reconnect. Always turn ignition off and wait a bit before trying to reconnect them. The second most likely thing is the clockspring in the steering wheel which is a bit more work
