Engine bay cooling mods... options/ideas

The F/TF engine bay design is flawed..

Not nearly enough air flow to allow for effective cooling.. So a few have looked at modding bits n bobs to aid in ari flow

Andy Watson has a rather nice rear :slapme: boot lid I mean.. with some custom air vents...

Ive opted for Koos air vents on the side... Making some DD scoops for under the car.. and some subtle mods to the boot lid vents..

The underside will be modded to open the hole up as big as it can go without letting water into the boot..

So.. anyone else done anything else? Pics? Ideas? Comments? Thoughts? Haters? lol

I was considering similar, with a high volume rad type fan mounted under the slats with a temp sensor. This would force hot air out of the top vents and draw cooler air in through the side vents and under the car. It might be possible to get a more efficient fan to replace the one on the side vent so that more air is drawn in there too. Let's face it, I doubt MG went out of the way to get the best fan they could.

The quad bike fans are a cracking idea..

Bu t I might struggle to get them in... with the ITBs and the pipercross box..

Found these though.. which could be fitted into the bootlid itself..

Ive been looking at high CFM fans too.. I plan to fit a manual overide switch on my fan too...

Get proper fans, you're not cooling a Playstation.

I would measure up so that you have two fans, one totally covering each side of the vents and use proper car fans, or even motorbike ones which might be lower profile.

I cant do the passenger side..





I hear what you are saying about car/bike fans at high level.. But running ITBs I might be limited for room.. so might have to fit fans into the boot lid..

I remember reading an article about computer case air flow, conducted by AMD. They found that it was best to suck the air out and not push it in at all, so it had good flow without turbulence.

Not sure if this applies here as much, but thought I would thow it out there.

Even from a PC cooling standpoint 40mm fans are only used when absolutely necessary and they are stupidly noisy. 1U servers have to use them as there's no headroom for anything bigger. If you want real CFM then look at at least 80mm. Compare the CFM for one of these

versus 4 of the 40mm.

The reason I used those fans as extractor fans is to assist the heat extraction to minimise heat soak from the upper reaches of the engine bay after the engine is switched off. They work in conjunction with the standard fan.

The standard fan alone, blows a good deal of the air out under the car following the path of least resistance, after the engine is switched off, trapping stagnant hot air in the engine bay.
By blowing some of the air out from up high and creating a partial vacuum in the upper reaches of the engine bay, I'm encouraging the cool air drawn in by the standard fan to better displace the stagnant hot air from the top of the engine bay, rather than just spilling most of the cool air out the bottom of the engine bay.

Noise isn't an issue, you don't notice any sound from them over the standard fan. You do however notice a lot more heat coming out of the vent when hold your hand over it. (hardly a scientific precision method of measurement, I know!) They bolt to the engine cover grill and are removed with it, to gain access to the engine.

DD those fans in your link link here look pretty much like what I've used.
