Water in the boot

:( Hi This is becoming a problem TF. Apart from the engine 'hunting' problems, lose of water (Now fixed by Russell), leaking servo, dodgy wiring on boot hinge today I have found water in the boot, again. Between the thunderstorms I managed to pour water down the boot surround and eventually water poured under the double floor panel on the n/s

(see photo, one bung removed to allow water to escape) and onto the boot floor under the carpet. I have once sealed the rear lights but the n/s had to be removed to give access for taking out a dent in the rear panel made by some irresponsible driver who reversed into my car (Still got a dent in the boot lid which has to be repaired). Has anyone had the same problem? and is it best to reseal the gasket or buy new.
Look forward to your comments

If the gasket is usable just reseal it. Some people have made their own gaskets. :yesnod:

Wasn't there a thicker rear light gasket made because of the problem of water ingress?

You can use those cheapo rubber carpet tiles from the quid shop. Just layer a few up and cut round the original and jobs a good un. Some people also clear mastic theres on the inside due to this problem.

It could also be coming from here:

There's a seam that is almost never sealed properly - some sealant squeezed in to it usually sorts the leaks out from that point.

Having recently found water in the boot both side this time after the heavy rain at the begginning of the week. I have removed both rear lights cleaned where they fit then removed the gaskets and cleaned those then swapped them over left to right so they are reversed on each light and fitted them with a generous smear of vaseline. now we wait and see if this has solved the problem.

reversing the gaskets is a trick i have seen used on the Rover 75 rear lights and it usually cures the problem on those.

HI All
Thanks for your comments.
Adamelphick - did water appear on the sides of the boot floor? In my car it seems to appear in the central lower section only. In between the rain today I have removed the gasket again and piped more sealant and re-fixed. It has been raining here for 5 hours so I will be able to check tomorrow, weather permitting. Waiting for a fuel filter to fit also to see if that helps the engine 'hunting'. May try the IAC valve next. :-?

That seam let's water in to the boot area and it collects in the boot floor yes.
