When I acquired my F I drove it home about 15 miles topping it up with water every now and then with no big problem, but my Son followed in his car with a tow rope just in case but it wasn't needed. When we got it home it was a split hose that was leaking, but all the same to that I did do the H/G, its not that hard to do on an F! Finding it far more of a job on the 2002 160 VVC. So my advice would be: get it insured then get a friend to tow it gently to the person you have in mind to do the repair. There is still a semi-local expert, but he's about 15 miles away. So the question is... I've only driven maybe 20 miles since I noticed the problem. Would it be very inadvisable to drive it slowly to him, with maybe an hour's break in the middle, or would this be seriously risking making things worse?
