I think you could easily make this yourself as long as you can weld, but it would be trial and error to get the dimensions right. For me it was easier to buy the kit. I was very pleased with the result. Before the mod I could hardly change gear.

Happy Christmas guys and thanks for the answers. My car is an LE500. My understanding is that this car and all later TFs don't have a sensor, but use the ECU (which probably has an internal temperature sensor). I haven't checked to see if the connector has dropped off, but I recall seeing a comment that you can check the fan operation using the diagnostics kit - is this correct?

Hello
Last year I fitted a new engine bay fan because the old one looked like it was about to fall apart with corrosion.
After that, it was very common to notice the fan cut in and out when driving around town - Summer or Winter.

I haven't been posting much on this forum recently, but just came across this thread.
I had been having similar problems with my clutch.
Tried everything to fix it, but finally discovered that the slave cylinder bracket was simply deflecting as I depressed the clutch pedal.
Fitting the well known brace modification completely solved the problem.  In fact the new brace pulled the slave mounting bracket forwards by at least 10mm while in the released position.

Definitely a good modification as it made a big improvement to the way the car drives.
I have also fitted the brake servo reinforcement bracket.  Although it stopped that deflection problem, there was no noticeable change to the way the car drives.
