well my MGF is a 1999 1.8 VVC which I bought as non runner on Gumtree for £225 about 4 years ago . it had bent valves due to belt snapped ???? I think whom I got it from tried doing cambelt but used wrong TDC mark on crank pulley anyway it came with 16 new valves genuine rover parts upgraded head gasket set plus head bolts . lucky for me they had completely stripped head and all bits in the boot . first thing was buy W/shop manual then I set about rebuilding head so valves I gave a small lap with fine paste then in the degreaser it went to get all residue off seats and valves plus blow through with compressed air . the bit I found a pain is setting the 2 servos and getting the indents in cam in same position as each other and still to this day think I am 1 tooth out . so popped head on and all auxillaries parts charged battery turned her over a couple of times with ignition feed disconnected to get oil pressure up once that done plugged back in spun her over about 6 turns and she popped farted then fired up and starts first time every time now . oh I am a motor mechanic by trade but now retired due to health issues . since I did mine I done a couple of head gasket replacements for people I know who have MGF s I have the scars up my arms from working in such small space . also done clutch replacement in situ for another person . I myself am 53 and not working . my hobbies are cars and of course my favorite my motorcycles especially my chopper and café racer .

Good work on your engine....plenty of cheap TF's going with HGF, could be a nice earner doing the headgaskets...
