Hi All,
After many years looking for a 'project' I finally stumbled over a '53 plate MG TF 135 that has been in storage for several years and covering only 44K since its birth.
The previous owner has spent time and effort on the body side of the TF but has spent limited time on the mechanicals, apart from the usual HGF rebuild.
So an ideal project thinks me!
Having now had time to study the TF in more detail, and reading the many useful 'How to's', I've put together a plan of attack for the forthcoming winter months.
What would be useful is for thoughts on which items I should prioritise and in which order I should attack the various issues I've currently discovered.
To do list:
S.S Front subframe mounts (I've assumed bumper removal would make life easier?)
S.S Rear subframe mounts (Still working out the best approach to take with this stage)
S.S Coolant pipes.
Low coolant level kit.
Powder coating of x braces, Underbody panel, ARB's.
Descaling of subframes.
Rust treatment.
Bilsteins.
And then the following weekend:lol:
Sound proofing kit.
Rear Parking sensors.
This should hopefully result in me getting the TF back on the road for Easter.
What do you think?
Brian

Looks like a reasonable list and running order, maybe doing the coolant pipes and underbody panel at the same time.

Thanks Robin.
Just hope the various stages all go to plan.
Having read some of the How to's I live in hope, but I'm also sure that there's going to be plenty of scraped knuckles and cursing to come.

Hi and welcome to the forum Brian.
I would be tempted to chuck it in for an early MOT to see if there is anything else.

Hi James,
Previous owner threw in a service (just basics) + MOT prior to the sale, so in theory we're good to go.

Hi and welcome to the forum, glad to see another enthusiast join the ranks...
I would add a brake calipers strip and clean, change of fluids (brake and OAT coolant (which would need to be done anyway if you are doing the stainless underbody pipes)and possibly the clutch) and when the better weather comes, soft clean re-stain and weatherproof. Be a good idea to lift the carpets in the footwells too, it may need a dry out.

Hi Sundance,
Thanks for the welcome and valid suggestions.
As the car hasn't been out in the wet at all in the past 4 years ( it's actually been stored in a centrally heated garage!) I'm hoping not to find any issues with wet footwells. I will though find out for sure when I strip the interior for fitting the sound proofing.
I may well be adding stainless brake hoses to the to do list, so this will cover the fluid change you suggest.

Cheers David.
I'm sure that several of your How To's are going to come in useful over the next few months.
