Guys,

I have just received my 2nd Phishing call on my home line with regards to Microsoft error messages. If you get these calls, give the caller no info! and hang up - or if you want 5 mins of fun you can wind him up

The scam is the caller will say that a windows PC at your address is generating a high number of Microsoft error messages and they are there to help stop this. The caller will know your name and address, so will have already got some basic info from a procured phone list. They will ask you to open up some windows log files (these will always have some errors in) to try and build up a fear and then tor take that away there will be a fix . Now I haven't managed to get to the fix yet as i ask to detailed a question and the caller gets scared and drops off , its either going to be a software download of Malware that will dump all your info on the web, or it might be as simple as them asking you to grant them access via Desktop sharing for later raping of your personal data .

Either way, do not tell them anything........ but ask lots of questions, its interesting how far they will go before they realise you are not going to be suckered and then they will dump the call. If anybody has the time and inclination, play dumb to find out exactly what their "magic" fix is to your unknown errors - I would like to know the full scam.

Ive had about 4 of these. As you say, keep em on line and wind em up for as long as possible.
Last one ended when I told him I couldn't find the 'windows' key, that he wanted me to press. He spent 5 - 10 mins talking me around the keyboard as to where it would be and finally i told him I had could see a key with an Apple on it.
'Ah that's a good one' was the reply followed by the sound of his phone being put (I like to think slammed) down.
