My wife tried backing her computer up earlier. :drive:

Unsurprisingly,

it crashed. :coat:

Backing up valuable stuff can be a nightmare. Keep it all in cyberspace (email the good stuff to yourself) so that you can access it later, and from anywhere. ;)

That's my solution anyhow. :)

Use a bare metal backup program like redo and / or a sync to a external drive / NAS box. Also if windows is kaput run a linux live cd to recover your files and jobs a gud un

It does bring up an important point though, backup, backup, backup.

Otherwise your car will be in the middle of the road and not in your drive :p

Oh I spent 6 years working as a consultant in system backup, restore and storage. Everything from windows backup, up to high end EMC storage.

The number of businesses that were relying only on simple RAID arrays to keep the data integrity was frightening.

Backup is one of those things that people either don't appreciate, or don't do properly (if at all in many cases), yet for most of us these days is the difference between keeping and losing a huge number of memories (pictures, emails, music, etc, etc).

I know its boring, but backup of your data is important, don't become someone who realizes this after losing everything when a hard drive fails!
