I had a 1/4 of a tank in and ordered 1000lt
It filled it to here
I thought we had a 2000lt tank so assumed it was correct ..
Then Rob came home and we debated over the actual capacity, he took a photo to prove his point
I phoned the company that put my tank in and this is what they said
ex
1600ml long
1150ml wide
1200ml high
int
1439 ml long
980ml wide
1100 ml height
cap 1540 lt
overfill prevention valve 220ml lost
usuable capacity
880ml high
1200 ltr fill
So what is the maximum the company could have put in with it already having a 1/4 of a tank in and taking into account the overfill prevention valve !
I just know I have been ripped off but at £660.49p for 1000lt I am royally weed off ..

The company said 1000lt would have taken it to full on the indicator dial, the float is moving so its not that
I just need to know before I phone up the oil supplier and ask them how much they actually did put in, and then explain how 1000lt would not have been poosible with a 1200 lt max capacity, 300lt in !
Really confused

If tank was a quarter full then 1540 - 385 = 1155 litres is the theotetical max fill based on calculation. 1200 is a reasonable actual max fill amount.
Hope this answers your query.
Rather than rely on guages, I used to dip my oil tank when we had one: messy but accurate!!
It will be all right in the end. If it isn't all right yet, then it is not yet the end..

Thank you all so much..
How do we dip measure it ourselves
What do we need to do it ?
I just know I am going to hate the answer to this if it's what I think it is going to be :pinch:

I can only tell you what I do - your tank may be different.
On mine there is a large filler cap which I remove...I then look inside to see the level and holding a long garden cane in one hand I place the end of the cane outside the tank at the level of the oil...I can only do this because I can see the shadow of the cane through the tank - if yours is bunded/double skinned this will not work. I then mark the level on the outside of the tank at the height where the cane is - chinagraph is ideal. It takes about 10 seconds to do and 5 minutes to explain. I've now calibrated the tank by trial & error and have marked on the outside the various amounts it takes to refill the tank from the different level measured.
The more traditional method is to dip the tank with a marked stick which is what I do on my boat...it's difficult not get kerosene on your hands though.

I have a print out receipt so I guess they cannot fiddle what they give you, its just with it only filling to 3/4's when it had a 1/4 in and only actually holds 1200 my maths head is saying this just does not equate :coat:

I may be thick but what issue do you have with the supplier?
