due to me putting myself down for the RR day in the nw section im going to attempt to service my mgf hopefully sunday or monday im wondering which kits people suggest and best price comparably
also if anyone has a decent guide to working on these cars as to the best way to do jobs on them it would be helpful

so ill need

oil
air filter(maybe induction kit/panal filter)
fuel filter
spark plugs(suggestions on decent ones)
sump washer
coolant flush

what else would people suggest me doing at some point i will be getting the mobile mechs to come to cambelt water pump and hg as its on 91k now and still on the orignal

I would add doing the grease points on the front and rear suspension arms to that list and also check your wheel bearings. If it has been a while I would also think about replacing the clutch fluid and put some lube on the clutch release arm, also how long has it been since the gearbox oil has been changed that might be worth a look.

These are worth a look from the download section;

MGF-ECD3-only-VINno-RD522573-onwards-UK-model.pdf Download Details

As far as spark plugs go I use NGK Iridium plugs and have had no problems and I have a K&N 57i induction kit which I have piped to my side scoops but there are others systems as good, the ITG Maxogen fo example.

Have Fun

No it doesn't matter a service is a servive until you change cam belts as the vvc thas two cam belts the 18i only has one. plugs platuim will do fine and cheaper

Have a look at Clive's 'How To' for a quick run through to make sure you've got all you need http://www.the-t-bar.com/en/forum/22-cjjs-guides/24267-tf-15k-servicing-how-to

Also, if the belts are definitely original, I'd be getting those replaced ASAP - I think the recommended service interval for belts is 4 years or 60,000 miles so this for me would be a priority. Personally I wouldn't do the HG unless it's showing signs of having problems.

Coolant flush? no need to do that unless the coolant is 4 yrs old then you still don't need flushing just new coolant
If the car has 91k on it the belts get changed at 40ish so they have been done twice and you there for have 30ish k mls to next belt change

Hopefully topped it up with coolant (ready mixed) and NOT WATER ~ Russell went to one recently to do a head gasket and it was frozen solid, apparently it had been leaking coolant and the owner was refilling with water, it was lucky that it had not split the engine

I would change the belts now, unless you know exactly when they were changed last?? Early Fs were five years or 60,000 miles whichever came first, then it was reduced to 4 years or 50k :yesnod:

Contact Russell at MG Rover Solutions www.mgroversolutions.com he charges £235 for a full service including belts, oil, coolant filters & plugs and a T4 health check. £30 extra for a water pump and £25 for a cambelt tensioner (both of those items are cost ~ i paid £29.99 for an OEM waterpump from MGOC ~ the cheap ones are rubbish) He will also check for any signs of impending HGF :hgf: and advise you. Russell travels all over the country but there are Jon Norris in Rutland and Mike Stafford on the South Coast all are superb mechanics and have similar prices. You can read about Russell in this forum in the post "Russell rolls into Cornwal. :woohoo:

That is sound advice if you feel a bit weary when my blue TF has gone that's exactly what I'm doing just for piece if mind as I have a strange leak that comes and goes when it likes. Sometimes I think its best to get a professional sort it at a certain point in time then you can always say yes it was fine in #.date.# and it had so and so done otherwise you could miss things out and could be the one things that costs you more and more to fix and could have been something easy to spot too
