Thanks for all the replies guys, its been an eventful day
My existing domains were with XCalibre (Well, actually webfusion... since they bought them out 2yrs ago). Was having mild annoyances since I cancelled my renewal for a domain due in Aug 2013, and they stripped my ability to manage it whilst it was still mine!
Anyways, turns out Webfusion / Heart / 123-reg are *all* sister companies from the same parent, and after some emails to and fro Ive made some progress....
1. Picked up the "Student Hosting" offer from 123-Reg (12mths @ £1/mth) inc. .biz domain
http://www.123-reg.co.uk/studenthosting/what-you-get.shtml
2. Grabbed a free web hosting account from "5quidhost" (www.5quidhost.co.uk) with tiny space / bandwidth (35Mb! / 100Mb). These guys are Apache only, but are UK-based, are recommended by Wordpress and setup my account (including two config changes via email) in about 10min. Wordpress also was a one-click-install!
The plan from now on will be to migrate my domains to 123-reg (5quidhost dont sell domains), and for the next 12mths have the flexibilty of both Apache + IIS platforms for the princely sum of £14.40 inc. VAT
I seriously cant recommend 5quidhost enough.... not the prettiest one out there, but they know what they do, and appear to do it well (Plus their FAQ is the most entertaining Ive read in a while!)
