It's why they renamed it "Climate change" years ago. The problem is that rising sea temperatures and hotter air over the Arctic have shifted the jet stream and so rather than warm air from the South we're getting cold air from the North and East.

like andy said, its due to the melting icecaps. Jet stream has shifted removing the nice warm air we normally get

And the theory is that the cold water from the melting ice packs will shift the Gulf Stream and that really will cool things down. Not as fast as in the shockingly rubbish film that is The Day After Tomorrow but without the Gulf Stream we'd get the same sort of weather as Moscow.
