just did them today.. look at my thread Tahiti to charcoal,
all you need is wet and dry assorted paper, 1 aerosol of primer 1 of your car colour and 1 of topcoat, plus elbow grease

cost around £20

take the shine of the clearcoat as you can see in my pic, its dull. then prime, use wet and dry paper with water to flatten primer using about 2000 grit til glassy smooth then paint in your colour again flatten down if you need to spray again, leave for at least 24hrs for paint to cure then clearcoat. im waiting until tomorrow night before i clearcoat mine

another tip. just do a light coat of primer first, if you have missed a bit of rubbing down or any grease on it and the primer will part and leave a crack.. if that happens (it did to me) just let it dry and wet flat it again in those areas then go over again with primer

Halfords BRG Paint does not match HAM, if you want a correct match get it made up. wipe the panel with thinners to remove any wax, then rub down, plastic primer, base coat and finally clear coat. do not rub down the base colour coat because you will get the wrong colour.
