If there are any F1 fans out there...
What do you think of today's tyre explosive performance?

The FIA wanted a tyre that degraded: be careful what you wish for.....

It will be all right in the end. If it isn't all right yet, then it is not yet the end..

I used to be a huge F1 fan, but it has come down to so many rules and regulations and technicalities that it seems to me that the races are won on computers and not on the track. As a spectator sport, it is a massive disappointment, in my opinion. The tyres are just one more technical experimental failure.

Ain't it funny, how time slips away...?

As 'Gary' on BBC showed: It's the poorly maintained track, with raised paving slabs, at turn 4 which probably caused the failures.

BRILLIANT drives by Mark Webber and Lewis Hamilton though

Were those kerbs the same last year, or have they been altered?

If they were the same, must be down to the tyres.

If they were altered, the track designer needs shooting.

Some really fast speeds, when some of the tyres let go,

Just shows how good their reactions are, plus the ones driving up behind being showed with debris.

Having watched in the past the kerb antics of these cars, I'm concluding that the tyre construction is flawed.
The FIA are of the same opinion I feel.

Previously they delaminated to the intact core: the structure remained intact. Now, they go boom! The whole effin lot.

It will be all right in the end. If it isn't all right yet, then it is not yet the end..

It would appear that the drivers are going too far over the white line onto areas that were never designed for running over.
The FIA deal with Pirelli still stinks

I think Gary came up with three workarounds for next week. Change the kerbs; tell the drivers to drive within the white lines; Change the tyres.

He also showed where the tyres were being cut by the sharp inside edge of the saw tooth kerbs.

To me the question is - Should we expect the tyres to cope with that edge. After all it was an inch high at most. I would certainly expect my road tyres to cope with that minor imperfection, are F1 tyres much more delicate?
So is it the tyres or the kerbs that are the problem?
I would suggest the tyres. I don't think those kerbs have been changed, nor are they significantly different from kerbs at every other track.

I agree withyou David it has to be the tyres. I dont think the kerbs have been changed. Anyway the only tyres to fail were on the F1 cars. None of the GP2 or GP3 cars suffered the same fate and they ride the kerbs.

"FIA" short for Ferrari International Assistance.

"If it all seems under control, you're just not going fast enough!" Mario Andretti

So....
Now Rumour Central says that a German GP boycott by some teams may be on the cards.

Great tactics: punish the worldwide fanbase as at Indy: way to go. Not.
