The GM found a deal with P & O: park and shop. 12 quid: drive on a Dover/Calais ferry: don't drive off in Calais! U turn so you're at the front for the return.
Shop till you drop, eat drink and be merry for 3 hours. In my case, eat sausage and mash and drink pop as I was the driver.
Fags are 20 quid cheaper then UK for 200, got 2 litre bottles of Snow Grouse for 30 quid. Some great wine deals available.
Most importantly, MG's love the sea. She was at the front sniffing the waves. First off the ferry at Dover. :broon:
Despite the 400 mile round trip we're still on top cash-wise and had a hoot.
Bad thing: a bad accident on the M1 with air ambulances and loads of emergency vehicles on the southbound M1. We were Northbound and delayed but hope that nobody was badly injured. Though we think someone was.......
Anyway, next time we're disembarking at Calais and going to explore ..........
End note: TF's can do 400 + miles in a day and not explode. Or have :hgf:
It will be all right in the end. If it isn't all right yet, then it is not yet the end..

The back end was well planted due to the weight of the booze and fags!
We were well chuffed with the car: over 40mpg and never missed a beat.
It still surprises me that I'm amazed at this for a 25k mile car however: MG paranoia I suppose. :yesnod:
If we'd done the trip in the old 70k Jag it wouldn't merit a mention. Done similar and further many times.

Funnily enough I was thinking that very thing yesterday: other than the topless experience on a hot day, the journey was deadly dull: M1, M25 then M20/A20 into Dover. I may well be looking into CC and your posts on the topic.
I still reckon that 5th gear could do with being a higher ratio as well. I think DD is looking into this.
