VVC cam sensor

For some time now I have had a misfire problem making my VVC engined car a bit jerky while running. I would have to press the gas peddle to stop it jerking. Well after a couple of posts on here and the F Reg I was told by someone else that they had a problem very much the same as I had and it was cured with a new cam sensor. So I set about changing my cam sensor To unplug the sensor you push the top of it in.As you look at it there is a bit proud . Here are some pics of the procedure.

You will also need a small 7mm spanner, an 8 mm spanner and a 10 mm spanner. The sensor is on the opposite side of the engine to the 18i model but the procedure is the same.

I am having the same problem with my 1996 VVC F is the sensor in the same place as I don't have all that stuff under the cover where the spark plugs are

Been looking should I change the crank position sensor as well as the cam position sensor

According to the Rave Technical Manual, I would say that the cam sensor is in the same place on all VVCs.

I've got a 1998 mk1 and will be taking the engine cover off later in the week weather permitting so can have a look at mine then if you like.

Hi Red rooster if you read the post it says the cam sensor is not under the plug cover if you look at your engine from the drivers side the sensor is on the left and in the middle of the engine as the picture show, you will need a 7mm spanner to get the single bolt off the cam sensor is £49 and the crank is about the same so I would just get the cam first and see how it goes

Just an up date I filled up to day and got 36.5mpg normally 30-32 mpg :broon:
Not bad as I only do 3mls to and 3mls back from the gym most days
