Can anyone tell me what I need to buy please, I believe they are quite deep to get at - I don't know what size to get or how long it needs to be..

Erm I didnt torque mine and I dont think garage did either when I watched them... interesting

It's a 16 mm plug socket that you need. Any proper plug socket should be long enough. When I first did mine I didn't have a proper plug socket but managed to loosen the plugs with a 16 mm long walled socket. I then scratched my head for a while trying to work out how to extract the loose plug as the long walled socket had no grip (it's deep) until I had a eureka moment and used a plug lead to pull it out. There is a torque setting for every bolt/machine screw etc on the MG but most people seem to ignore them.

Ben, I don't get PM's on my mobile and I hardly use the pc - but I'll crank it up now mate.
John, thanks for the offer mate - I'll give it thought, I do have access to a torque wrench so I should be ok, with a long reach 16mm plug socket then?
