Hi, I've got some new plugs for my car - but then it occurred to me that I don't have spark plug spanner!!!

Can anyone tell me what I need to buy please, I believe they are quite deep to get at - I don't know what size to get or how long it needs to be..

Thank you in advance of the help :)

Scott

14mm I believe http://www.toolstation.com/shop/Automotive/Mechanics+Tools/Spark+Plug+Wrench+14mm/d60/sd180/p37692

Might be a wrong guess let the thread fester a bit. Did you get my PM Scott?

Hi Scott if you would like to come to my house we could take them out as the plugs also need torqueing down

My mate graham has some magic torque wrench guestimates but never had any hassle on anything he has done.

Hi Scott,

It's a 16 mm plug socket that you need. Any proper plug socket should be long enough. When I first did mine I didn't have a proper plug socket but managed to loosen the plugs with a 16 mm long walled socket. I then scratched my head for a while trying to work out how to extract the loose plug as the long walled socket had no grip (it's deep) until I had a eureka moment and used a plug lead to pull it out. There is a torque setting for every bolt/machine screw etc on the MG but most people seem to ignore them.

Thanks guys, sorry for delay getting back to you all...
Ben, I don't get PM's on my mobile and I hardly use the pc - but I'll crank it up now mate.
John, thanks for the offer mate - I'll give it thought, I do have access to a torque wrench so I should be ok, with a long reach 16mm plug socket then?

Thanks again :)

Halfords do the best one that I have ever used. It is extra deep and is magnetic too. It's like it was designed for the MG.

Hi Scott I think you would be better buying an extension bar and a normal plug socket as the extension will come inhandy for other things :broon:
