dear admin people

While we're asking admin questions, i have one:

When I get a PM, I get a notification and I also get a 'global notification'.
I can't see what the purpose of a dual notification for one PM is for, is there a way to turn it off or have I done something daft / missing something?

(Actually, that's quite possible).

As annoying as it is. We are stuck with it as I've no control over it
