David, IMO window 8.x is S%1T, my productivity went backwards.. if I could I would have windows 7 back. the only thing that makes it usable is with "classic shell" which is a free download. Fed up of scrolling to the edge to find I have opened some other app in error :bang: . Don't get me started on the bloatware with fills the hard drive with stuff you don't ever need...

My latest laptop came with Windows 8 so fait accompli.
I agree that 7 was better. 8 is designed for a touch screen which most laptops don't have. So the entire Metro section is wasted effort.

I have 'iobit start button' installed ( basically similar to Classic Shell) so I can have a usable interface again. :yesnod:

I've had my first encounter with Windows 8 this week, I've set up two new laptops this week for friends both of which run 8.
Well I'm trying to keep an open mind buuuuuuuuut my first impressions aren't good.
It just seems like change for the sake of change.
A cynic might suggest that they didn't really have anything breathtakingly new to offer so they decided to add perceived value by moving everything about and adding lots of pointless pretty coloured squares on the display, to make it look new and that you might be getting something for your money. :nonod:
