oil consumption
should I start to worry that the TF consumes some oil?
Monitored it over the last 5k mls, it needs around 0.7l/1000mls.
I do not see any leaks so apparently it's 'used' by the engine...
1.8 non vvc, 72k mls

Hi Bertl,
Have you noticed any blue smoke etc? also has any work gone on recently around the rocker cover? there are baffles fitted within the cover which can sometimes get saturated and also if work has gone on, can get lost leading to oil being drawn into the inlet system and being burnt off there.
Just a thought, worth a look maybe?

In my book, and others will disagree, that's excessive.
Check for blue exhaust smoke.

It will be all right in the end. If it isn't all right yet, then it is not yet the end..

I always fear that the smoke may get white some day so have an eye on this permanently.
But it's definitely not blue!
I didn't do any work on the engine so far, the previous owner uprated the head gasket at 60k. Don't think anything else was done.

Check for an oil leak from the Cam carrier/or Cam oil seals particularly on the exhaust side of the block, oil runs down the engine and either burns off on the manifold or runs around the bell housing and drips off whilst moving (in my case). I have a leak from the gearbox end and only noticed when the gear box was covered in oil and under the car there was oil gathering on the gearbox/sump area. I would get a single spot of oil on the drive over a few weeks. I changed the CAM oil seal and reduces the problem to just a oily trace on the gearbox (manageable until the head comes off). What I did notice is the oil was high on the dipstick(right on top mark) but when I lost oil down to the mid position the rate of loss has slowed to virtually not measurable (except you can see it on the block).
