What do you think, does it make sense to do a 500km trip to check this car?

2005 TF with 18k mls - and HGF - for €1700.00 (will go for a lower price for sure).

OK, I do not see the mentioned 'rear spoiler' or 'wood trim interior' on the pics - and I'm not sure if an 'electric soft top' was available ever (was it??), also I'm wondering about the 'multifunction steering wheel' - steering and honking, does this qualify as 'multifunction'??

What would you offer?? :-? Please bear in mind irish price level is a little higher than in UK.

Hi Bertl, could be interesting but a very long way to go. Yes they did do an electric hood, but by all accounts they weren't very reliable. Nice colour though. It would be worth a punt for that mileage and condition. I'd offer £1000-1200.

Regards

Looks like a nice car (HGF aside) and a late model so I would think it will have the softer ride springs. As you say the description doesn't quite match the photo so they may have done a cut & paste from something else. I can only see 3 active switches on the panel which would be front fog, rear fog & HRW....aircon?? You should be able to ask a few questions over the phone and if the description is not totally right that's a good starting point to beat down the price. Could you do the HG yourself? If not getting a proper price for the job will give you a better idea of total cost. You also have to factor in recovery costs. Distance is a relative thing - here you often have to travel 200 miles each way to find what you want.

This ad seems like it has been written by someone who knows bugger all about cars, so maybe they're misnaming a tilt adjustable steering column as a multifunction steering wheel and they're confusing the heated rear window as the electric soft top, then there is the missing spoiler unless they are mistaking the longer TF bootlid as a spoiler?
But then I don't see the aircond or recirculation switches it should have if it has air, nor do I see wood on the dash!

Still it might be well worth a look, you should ask some questions on the phone before you go and see it though.
Another possibility is that those are some old pix and the car now has the wood, spoiler etc. but that still wouldn't account for the air or the electric top which would also require a switch somewhere.

True that could go either way though....It could be a pessimistic diagnosis and it could possibly be an easy fix...or it could be an optimistic diagnosis and it could have all manner of unseen troubles.
I still say it's worth inquiring about though, as you might be able to haggle a bargain

Yeah I agree it is worth enquiring about and they could of got the head gasket failure incorrect. But surely they would not advertise it with HGF if they were not sure if they have they must be bloody stupid

As they may well know bugger all about cars, then they would be going on what a mechanic told them, and we all know the sort of rubbish diagnosis that mechanics not familiar with our cars are capable of making.
