Back to MG's : as I've been away for a bit, how are the minor mods to your car coming along?

Example: he offered to do a cambelt change for us in exchange for a very few quid and a chat with Sue and I and a meal out with us. Whatever he's doing I hope it works out. He's trying to make a living for his family.
Trying to stick up for what's right here. I know there were issues with forum members.
He never did me no harm, and gave me help.

Issues like this, resolved in court rarely leave either party happy, but at least now there is a resolution, and people can move on.

I don't think it's as simple as that when you are working on other peoples cars though. Would you be happy letting a charming heart surgeon with dangerous working practices work on you if he did a cheap deal for you?
Unfortunately the personality of the person doesn't always match their skills and when you get as many complaints as we were seeing from people who had work done, then you have to think whether to keep on supporting someone or start warning people against them.
The forum went through a period where we felt uncomfortable as we didn't want to cut him off at the legs, but we also didn't want to recommend him as it would have been unfair to our members.
I don't wish him any ill, but I do hope he ups his game as he seems determined to continue working on others cars. He may be OK on servicings and belt changes, but other stuff was shocking.
Time will tell.

If anyone has any work done on their car by anyone and they feel the work to be unsafe or poor standard they can seek advice from the citizens advice bureau
SergiBMW paid £185 for a vehicle inspection to double check the work that was done at Re-Born
Originally Sergi called the RAC to do an inspection but they said their reports were not recognised in court, so gave him the number of an organisation who have 'court approved' vehicle inspectors
PML was the closest being 45 miles from where the car was stored and completed an inspection and report of the vehicle
The vehicle was not driven and nothing electrical was tested as the loom was damaged in several places
PML catalogued 76 defects (without starting or moving the car, nor testing anything electrical)
As with any service we pay for.. From buying an apple, to having a car restored or repaired we each (well in the UK anyway) have legal rights under the sale of goods act.. It's just a long expensive process sometimes to exercise those legal rights
As with all companies on the planet.. Reputation is everything and you are only as good as the last job.. Do your research/homework.. Get a written contract.. Get a quote BEFORE rework starts.. (A quote is different to an estimate) and get it in writing the person undertaking the work must contact you before the price goes above that of the original quote
Ask to see a copy of their public liability insurance certificate, ask to see their relevant qualifications, speak to other customers for feedback/experiences, ask to see other work done by the company.. Anyone can make big claims.. Talk stuff up.. 18 cars built at £18k each etc.. But where are they? All locked away in private museums?
Do a little digging people before you hand over your own hard earned cash to any company

We each vote with our feet..
Sure its nice to deal with someone who's nice, funny, witty, charming etc..
One of the guys I've dealt with during my build was one of the most miserable people on the planet.. No passion about his work (well not evident in conversation) but wow is his work good..
I wanted the product.. Not to marry into his family lol

Everybody makes mistakes, its about learning from them.

There comes a time where it goes beyond that though, when the company over charges, can't say where the money has gone, does dangerous and shoddy work, "loses" expensive parts that you have given them to do the job and lies to you.
