Hydragas question

as a TF owner I've no experience working with the hydragas suspension.

Now a F is available near me for very small money - it needs some work but could be a nice project.

Unfortunately I'm not aware of any MG specialist in my area or in Eire in general, neither do we have any MG dealership.

So my question is - can I work on the hydragas suspension myself without the original special tools? Do I need this special refilling equipment or could anything else be used? Is there another car manufacturer that used a similar system where a local garage could help?

Hydrgas pumps are available on eBay for not a lot I have not used one but i guess ots only used for topping up, ask around you may find a garage or mechanic with a "dalek" as a number of BL Rover Austin cars have used Hydragas

Hmm, should I go for the project? How to tell the better half? :tapfoot:

Have at her Bert, you can do it. There's no MG specialist within a few thouand miles of me but that didn't stop me from taking the plunge.

Make sure the listed garages still have the equipment, also check any former Austin rover dealers.

Alternatively there is a pump available on ebay for an all in cost of less £100 which looks very useful.

Buy the car for 'er in doors, she'll love it when it's finished.

My only concern would be the availability of new spheres, I went to see an F that was for sale locally a month or so ago but it had suspension issues plus a lot of rust around rear of the sills, I saw it last week at the breakers yard in St Day.

I wonder if there is a company that will consider the re-manufacture of the hydro gas units? Rimmers would probably buy the first production batch.

Hi Guys

I did contact and send an e-mail to the company in Cambridge who overhaul Citroen Hydraulic Spheres.

Pleiades - '[email protected]'

Hi Guys

Ref our telephone conversation regarding the hydrolastic/gas spheres on the MGF.

I’ve copied you into a link on one of our Forums as we are now in a position where the spheres are not being manufactured anymore and obviously they are losing the nitrogen and need re-gassing.

http://forums.mg-rover.org/showthread.php?t=669178

See link and let me know if you can help and obviously a cost so we can send it out to the MG fraternity

Unfortunately I haven't heard back yet. It might be worth while seeing if we can gee them up if you are interested.
