Hello I was wondering can I swop out my F's gear stick with a shorter TF one is it a easy job just unbolt and pop off the ball and socket linkage on the bottom ??? then re attach ??
I have been looking at the slick shift but it seems expensive I have always thought the F's gear stick to be a bit on the long side

Saw half of the thread off with a hacksaw and reattach gear knob. Cheap as chips

Here is an old How To from the comprehensive set of How To threads which can be found by clicking on the orange tab on the left.

I cut all the threaded bit off and bought a knob that was secured by 3 grub screws.

It seems that the MK 1 MGF gear lever is longer slightly than the Mk2 (MY2000) one. On the Mk 1 I ran a die nut down to the should extending the thread the used a MGB/Midget wooden knob which is much shorter:-
The new knob and all of £7 .................
No length removed from the lever itself.
Now on "Elsie" who's gear change was awful due to wear I fitted the whole unit from the MY2000 VVC donor and threaded that down the the shoulder then cut 3/4" off the length:-
and that is the result. I have no idea why they needed such long gear knobs it's a gear change not a railway points lever.
