Inspired by Mr Bluestreaks recent out and about at Winnats Pass, bank holiday weather and the need to just have a good run out, we decided to pop down the roof and check out this area of the Derbyshire peaks!
It a great run for us over the Staffs moorlands to Buxton, and many of our piccies are taken on this road, but the views over the Cheshire plain and the backdrop of the Roaches landscape always makes this run enjoyable...
Through Buxton and up over the A6 then taking a right after Dove Holes brings you into some of the most inspiring scenery Derbyshire has to offer.
Deep valleys, High peaks and winding roads are stunning, especially when you are in sports car. We hit the mighty Mam Tor mountain road, a steep winding narrow track which drops down to the Edale valley. Lots of two seaters about here and many a hiker braving the steep hills.
A couple of stops to take in the views just admire the lovely country we live in!
We then stopped off at Edale and did a bit of exploring along the small river that babbles through the valley. A truly beautiful spot with small waterfalls and tributary streams flowing down from the surrounding hills.
Then along the valley floor that is Edale road, to the towns of Hope and Castleton.
Here is the Hope valley with the Cement factory in the far distance. If I remember rightly, Hope works was one of the larger cement works in the UK, I actually did my apprenticeship in the cement industry at the Blue Circle establishment at Cauldon.
We then hit the road up to the Odin lead mine, pausing to explore the cavern there. A local source of lead and silver.
Then it was up to the formidable Winnats pass. It did remind me of last years run through the Cheddar Gorge....apologies for the piccies, but the light was fading.
Returning back through Buxton saw a stop off at the renown Bills chippy for some excellent fish and chips, then back over the roaches and to Onecote, homeward bound.
A final stop to catch the sunset over the Roaches before getting back to Alton and beer in the hot tub!
